KID KOALA’S THE STORYVILLE MOSQUITO HONG KONG PREMIERE AT EAST KOWLOON CULTURAL CENTRE
After acclaimed performances across Canada, Mexico, and Abu Dhabi in 2025, Kid Koala’s The Storyville Mosquito kicks off 2026 with a Hong Kong premiere at East Kowloon Cultural Centre, Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
The Storyville Mosquito is a live animated graphic novel performed, filmed, scored, and foleyed in real time. Fifteen performers bring the film to life onstage using eight cameras, twenty miniature sets, and seventy-five puppets, capturing cinematic close-ups and sweeping scenes as the story unfolds before the audience’s eyes. The performance is accompanied by a live string trio, with Kid Koala on piano and turntables.
The show follows the charming journey of a mosquito who moves to the big city to chase his dream of becoming a great musician. Equal parts playful and technically astonishing, the show blends live puppetry, music, and filmmaking into an unforgettable experience.
Since its inception in 2019, The Storyville Mosquito has toured nine countries, twenty-one cities, and been performed over one hundred times worldwide! In 2023, it was awarded the Dora Award for Outstanding Touring Production.
Each international presentation also incorporates localized visual moments, with props and set details thoughtfully adapted to reflect the city it visits, making every performance a little different and site-specific.
Hong Kong audiences can expect a one-of-a-kind version of this beloved production as it makes its debut at East Kowloon Cultural Centre.
