We're excited to introduce As Above So Below, the monumental debut audiovisual work from Montréal-based artist ensemble Dark Sky Society, arriving February 19 2027 on Envision Records.
Rooted in Montréal's adventurous avant-rock, jazz and film communities, Dark Sky Society brings together 14 musicians and 5 filmmakers, led by Vid Cousins and William Hesselink in collaboration with Ryhna Thompson.
Developed over six years from a pile of entangled compositional threads, As Above So Below is a sprawling 57-minute composition and visual album, weaving together percussion, guitar, piano, harp, koto, marimba, contrabass, vibraphone, pedal-steel, synths, brass and woodwinds.
Moving between the cosmological and the microscopic, the handmade and the digital, the album explores recurring patterns in the microcosm and macrocosm, orchestrating themes in whispers and hurricanes.
Its accompanying film draws on hand-drawn animation, dark-field microscopy, chemical macrophotography and 3D-rendered environments, reflecting the Society's love of mathematics, science fiction and the fundamental rules of life, the universe and everything.
The debut single, “First Law of Thermodynamics,” is out now.
