Tim Crabtree is a composer, vocalist, instrumentalist and producer based in Montréal, originally from North West England. Working across acoustic, orchestral and electronic approaches he has 6 international releases to his name and over a decade of recording and performing across Europe and Canada in the indie-folk realm under the moniker Paper Beat Scissors. International festival headline slots, BBC Radio sessions and Rolling Stone cover CD placements attest to the critical and public response to the music. He has performed self-arranged orchestrations of his work for chamber ensemble and full symphony orchestra across Canada and the new album Parallel Line features his first arrangements for string quartet with the much-lauded Warhol Dervish String Quartet (credits include Lhasa and Patrick Watson). An avid electronic music producer, his side project under his given name has seen over a million streams on Spotify.
A frequent collaborator, arranger and live and studio session musician, highlights include dozens of performances with “national treasure” (Globe and Mail) Michael Feuerstack, performing with Arcade Fire member Richard Reed Parry at a live iteration of his “Music for Heart and Breath” at the Banff Centre for the Arts and work with former Halifax poet-laureate Tanya Davis on her viral video “How to Be Alone” (over 8 million views) and her opening poem for the Canada Games in 2011 with the Canadian Prime Minister in attendance. Crabtree is in the process of translating “Parallel Line” into Spanish.
