HUA LI 化力
-
Hua Li 化力 is the only half-Chinese, half-militant, half-rapper of your heart. Her music moves between hazy R&B, jazz, house, and hip-hop — emotional confessionals delivered at club volume.
Hua Li’s project has often worked the fruitful tension between opposing forces. Her latest album, ripe fruit falls but not in your mouth, is characteristically libertine, bold, and textural — playing between hazy R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and electronic. It digs into loss, love’s aftermath, and the friction between the aerated and the carnal, capturing the emotional extremes of healing in motion. The album was named to RANGE Magazine’s Best of 2024 list and shortlisted for their Top 50 Canadian Albums.
A dynamic performer and collaborator, Hua Li has toured across North America and Europe, performing at the Reykjavik Secret Solstice Festival, World Pride Toronto, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. She’s shared stages with Cadence Weapon, Fat Tony, and Riit, and co-wrote on Gayance’s Masquerade, shortlisted for the 2023 Polaris Music Prize.
Also a charismatic club DJ and host of Landr Audio’s Learn Music series, Hua Li blends alt-rap, cloudy house, and sharp political insight into a sound that is subversive, sensual, and unforgettable.
