Over the past 20 years Vid has been steadily accumulating a strong reputation both in the fields of studio production and live sound. He has been sought out by many world-leading artists for their projects including Squarepusher, Kid Koala, Amon Tobin, Bell Orchestre and ‘!!!’. During this time he has worked alongside many great producers and engineers including Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys, Super Furry Animals), Al Fisch (Bjork, Art of Noise), Charlie Francis (R.E.M.), Brian Rose (Robbie Williams) and Lewis Taylor.
His studio production career began in the UK in 1995 as an assistant engineer at ‘The Dairy’ recording studios in Brixton, London. The varied projects at this establishment ranged from Real World recordings through to the mix production on Deep Purple’s ‘Live in Europe 1996’ album. Later work would see him in such positions as studio technician at the 9-studio recording facility at the University of Westminster and Chief Engineer at ‘SubZer0’ studios in South London. Since relocating to Montréal he has worked with many award winning artists such as Polaris Prize winner Patrick Watson and Oscar winner Beatrice Bonifassi. Vid now runs his own recording and production facility, Monkey Puzzle Sound Studio.
In the Live Production field Vid sharpened his teeth on the London music venue circuit. Starting as a freelance audio technician and growing into full production management and venue technical direction. More recent projects including production management for Kid Koala, Bell Orchestre, Jorane and Amon Tobin’s surround sound tours.
Following the completion of a Masters degree in audio production Vid’s session musician career saw him relocate to Montreal, Canada, on the back of the Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff North American tour for one-time Dream Warrior – Spek. He is currently establishing himself as a composer with commissions including Vancouver 2010 Olympic Committee for which he composed a piece for the ‘Cultural Olympiad’ and has worked on the score for Jonathan Ng’s latest NFB animation.
